If you are in the Porches (Lagoa) area, the Porches Velho Restaurant will be waiting for you to show you the best of the Algarve! A hidden gem in the picturesque Algarve village of Porches, where traditional Portuguese food is made with love and pride.
The Porches Velho Restaurant radiates an old charm, both in the atmosphere and in the hospitality. The food is also traditional in quantity and ingredients, with modern touches that add extra flavors to the dishes. The generous portions of timeless delights satisfy more than just our hunger cravings.
Porches Velho restaurant is located in an old cellar that is over 200 years old. The huge wooden door leads into the open-plan dining room, where your eyes immediately rise to follow the height of the ceiling - just under 5 meters!
The original wooden beams still crisscross the ceiling and there are mullioned windows near the top to let in the lovely Algarve light.
The walls are adorned with traditional blue and white painted tiles and rustic farm utensils and there is even an old copper still, used in times past to distill medronho - the local brandy.
In winter the main dining room is cozy with a roaring fire in the huge open fireplace and in summer the terraced patio is the place of choice. The peaceful rural setting, with views of the Monchique mountains, complements the quality of Algarve cuisine.
Porches Velho is a traditional restaurant with a modern touch. Mr. Candeias, owner of Porches Velho, takes great pride in serving tasty, healthy Portuguese food - comfort food bathed in sunshine. The flavors may be familiar - tomatoes, herbs, fresh fish, tender meat - but the volume is turned up so those intrinsically Portuguese flavors can sing. Modern touches and flavor fusions are added, bringing new levels of flavor to traditional dishes.
